Monterey Bay Area Transit, fantasy

April 2025

This map depicts a possible future for the Monterey County Rail Extension project, which will bring existing CalTrain and Capitol Corridor services south from San Jose and Gilroy to Salinas. The project will also add two additional rail or bus branch lines to connect Santa Cruz and Monterey to the mainline.

Metro regions in California all suffer from a notorious history of individual transit agencies not working with each other to connect a larger suburban region. This map hopes to be a motivator for area agencies to work together and make transit usable for all people, regardless of where they choose to call home.
